"Sauron's forces have begun their attack."
―Gandalf
"*Hail, Sauron, Lord of the Ring, Lord of the Earth!"
―War-chant (*translated from Mairin)

Sauron's Forces - alternatively called Mairon's Forces, and sometimes referred to as the Dark Lord's Army, the North King's Army, the Dark Armies or Black Armies - were the immeasurable legions mustered by the Dark Lord Sauron throughout the Second and Third Ages of Endor to cow the Free Peoples into submission.

Initially assembled from the multitude of foul things that still lurked in the World, its ranks were swelled by the various heathen hosts of Men or Dwarves that bent the knee before the Dark Throne; though the Dark Lord Sauron himself was reckoned as both a mighty ruler and captain, he left much command over his disparate armies to some of his grim agents: the Lord-father Adar, the Witch-king, the Orc-king Azog, the Númenórean-king Pharazôn and the corrupted Wizard Saruman were among the most notable of these vassals.

Alliances

In their early history, these legions were formally joined against the Free Peoples by the armies of the Warlords Mûar and Durlach and the Sorceress Kashaka, all three of whom had conceded to an uneasy union with the Dark Lord Sauron to escape his purge. Following these petty tyrants' respective defeats, their minions were gradually absorbed by the Enemy into his forces proper, for in the end the self-styled "Lord of the Earth" suffered no competitor.
